On the day, Ms. Dong encourages 10 award-winning students that they must strive to have high morals, respect parents, a pursuit of knowledge and become the essence of society. She said even if you encounter difficulties in life at this stage, do not give up, try your best and overcome these obstacles. We all experience knocked down and downhill in life before, just continues to polish yourself and build up your skills, and you will get back up. Eventually, in the future, you will meet someone that appreciate your abilities and hard works. We need to understand “gratefulness” and “to give” when you have the power, you must help others and give back to the community.

It was serendipity that led Daisy to Wenzao University. She is a devout Catholic who originated from Kaohsiung (a city in Taiwan, Pinyin: Gāoxióng). During her study, she was staying in the dormitory of the Company of St. Ursula [1], Sister Anna and Sister Huaying Xu were taken care of her. Daisy also has relatives who were studying at Wenzao University, and her best friend became a vice professor in the English department. Top it off, the Wenzao University of Language is also associated with the Company of St. Ursula. It was fate that she has a strong relationship with the University. Therefore, Daisy and Warren decided to establish “Wing-Yee Lam, Xiu-Ling Dong Couple Scholarship” to provide long-term fundings for students who need financial support. They want to “cast a brick to attract jade”, as in by setting up an example and hope it will attract more enterprises and the general public to contribute generously and support Wenzao.

This semester, most of the students who achieved the scholarship are generally from economically weaker families, and the fundings reduced their burdens. The student, TingYu Xu, said she was so happy and touched when she was receiving the scholarship as it eliminated the financial burden of her mother. Then, she can concentrate on study and complete her course. Another student, Weiwei Xu also very thankful because she does not need to worry about the academic fee for the time being. Thus, she can dedicate on becoming a flight attendant and working toward her goal before graduation.

Since 2016, the number of spots for the scholarship has increased up to 20 students.
